Hoegaarden is a brand of wheat beer that originated from Belgium and is named after the village where the local monks brewed beer in 1445. Since the Middle Ages, Hoegaarden was known for its witbier (white beer) and at its peak, was home to several breweries and distilleries. However, the popularity of wheat beer fell and led to the closure of the last Hoegaarden brewery in 1957. Decades later, Hoegaarden has once again risen to become the symbol of Belgium wheat beer and is distributed to many countries, including to China and Singapore.
The smooth and light flavour of Hoegaarden wheat beers is credited to bitter orange peel and coriander that was added to the beer. During the production process, excellent ingredients like natural spring water and high-quality wheat are used to create the signature taste of Hoegaarden wheat beer. Like other Belgium wheat beers, Hoegaarden beers have a very cloudy appearance and a sweet smell with hints of citrus and other notes, creating a complex scent. The refreshing beer has both herbal and floral notes that are enhanced by the presence of spices like coriander.
