Phil Knight is an American business magnate that is best known for being the co-founder and ex-CEO of the famous sports brand, Nike, Inc. He graduated from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and the University of Oregon, where he ran track. Together with his track coach, he founded Nike (formerly Blue Ribbon Sports) in 1964. Phil Knight is also a known philanthropist, having donated over USD$2 billion to his alma maters.
Although Phil Knight had no knowledge about shoe design and lacked financial resources when he started the company, he eventually turned Nike into a massively successful company. Today, Nike is a brand that everyone knows, with its distinctive “swoosh” logo becoming one of the most recognisable logos in the world. Nike is incredibly popular in Singapore and is sports brand favoured by both young teens and adults. In 2016, Phil Knight’s memoir (Shoe Dog) was published, allowing the public to learn more about the trials and tribulations he struggled with in the past to keep Nike from closing down. His memoir will be an excellent read for any future entrepreneurs and those that are interested in the company.
