Located in France’s wine growing region of Beaujolais, Moulin-à-Vent is one of the oldest vineyards in the area. Established in 1732, it is noteworthy for growing the Gamay Noir grape variety to produce complex, fruit-driven red wines. Situated high up on a hill, the name was taken from the iconic 15th century windmill that sits in the heart of the vineyards. Moulin-à-Vent wines are fermented traditionally in open vats and left to age between 10 to 12 months in French oak barriques, achieving a subtle hint of oak spice characters.
The terroir has a distinctive feature through its pink granite soils rich in manganese, resulting in a deeper, more intensely flavoured wines produced than other parts of Beaujolais. With a floral and fruity bouquet, the produced wine becomes robust and full-bodied with ageing potential. The alchemy of soil and grape variety specific to the terroir in Moulin-à-Vent influence the wine’s rich red colour and structure. Browse for Moulin-à-Vent products in Singapore’s duty-free shopping.
