Oban is a single malt whisky distillery that is located at Oban, in the Scottish west coast port. Founded in 1794, the Oban distillery is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, although it did not operate continuously as it was left in disuse for brief periods. As a result, Oban is better known for its younger 14-Year-Old malt whisky internationally, including in Singapore.
The Oban distillery has two of the smallest pot stills in Scotland and produces fewer than 0.7 million litres a year, which is far lesser than the estimated national average of 1.2 million to 2 million. However, the lesser quantity is not representative of Oban’s quality, as it produces incredible single malt whiskies that have a distinctively dry and smoky flavour. The unique taste of Oban’s whiskies can be credited to its uncommon outdoor condensation method where the distilled alcohol is exposed to the salty sea air, creating a flavour akin to salted caramel. The 14-Year-Old whisky from Oban is of medium richness and has a combination of light smoke with a hint of spice that will be perfect with salmon and other light seafood dishes.
