What Your Wine Taste Says About Your Personality

There’s so much more to wines than their taste profiles. You can tell one’s personality just by their choice.

What’s your wine personality?

1. Merlot

Go with the flow, Merlot drinkers say. When you love a classic, you blend in anywhere. But don’t be fooled – treat them like a pushover, and you’ll be put in your place. A Merlot drinker is wise, intelligent and not one to be underestimated.

2. Zinfandel

The Zinfandel, whether in red or white, sneaks up to you slowly, then explodes into a celebration. We’re talking about an inviting deception, once unleashed, turns into the life of any party. Give a Zinfandel drinker a slice of adventure, and they’ll take it through to the finish line.

3. Shiraz

Call it Shiraz, not Australian Syrah, because the “z” is important to those who take a sip with pride, and they’re not afraid to show it. Flamboyant, you could say. The “sophisticated” is not them. Tell a drinker you love the adrenaline of a high-speed racer with pumping beats exploding through the speakers, and you have made a partner in crime.

4. Sauvignon Blanc

You’re the alpha to the Shiraz – you ditch the loudness for more sophistication, one that commands attention in effortless ways. We know you love that superiority; you’re only after the best of the best. Revel in the importance, we say, and you shall draw a followership that’ll put even the Zinfandel to shame.

5. Rosé

A Rosé drinker loves to stand out – skipping the red and white world for a wine glass of liquid pink alcohol is enough to draw that attention they’re after. They hate the mainstream as much as you bask in it, and love to tell you why so.

6. Sparkling Wine

A preference for Italian sparkling wines (or even Champagnes, for that matter) tells us that you’re living in the big and bling. Life is always a celebration for you, but we think it’s only you whom you’re raising a toast to.

7. Malbec

To truly know a Malbec drinker, you have to cut through the layers, much like the red wine itself. Hidden beneath is the genuine and loveable, but they're always mysteriously complex, which appeals. You’ve got to work harder with this one if a date is what you have in mind.

8. Riesling

Everybody loves a Riesling drinker – they’re sweet, kind and loveable. Well, that is until conflicts emerge. They’re the first to exit. No wonder they pair better with foods with less spice. With a Riesling, it’s like a friendship for namesake – they’ll be there unless you need them.

9. Chardonnay

Chardonnay drinkers will never leave their comfort zones, no matter how compelling your Rosé or Zinfandel can be. You’ll find them raising a toast with a Chardonnay while others cling to their Champagne glasses. They’re really what the drink is about – rich and unsubtle in flavour, eager to tell you that white wines are only enjoyed with a glass of Chardonnay.

10. Pinot Noir

Mysterious and alluring, complex and intriguing – Pinot Noir drinkers know just how much to reveal without making a stand. They’ll inspire you, but you won’t know what they truly believe in. Swivelling in the grey area, a night with a Pinot Noir expands your worldviews in ways you least expect. We say, indulge in it – the world needs more of the open-minded.
