1. Description
Ardbeg Ten Years Old is revered around the world as the peatiest, smokiest, most complex single malt of them all. Yet it does not flaunt the peat: rather it gives way to the natural sweetness of the malt to produce a whisky of perfect balance. Named World Whisky of the Year in 2008. Non chill-filtered.

Alcohol: 46%
Producer:Ardbeg
Vintage:10
Alcohol Percentage:46
Appearance:

Deep Gold

Variety:Single-malt
Palate:
An explosion of crackling peat sets off millions of flavour explosions: peat effervesces with tangy lemon and lime juice, black pepper pops with sizzling cinnamon-spiced toffee. Then comes a wave of brine infused with smooth buttermilk, ripe bananas and currants. Smoke gradually wells up on the palate bringing a mouthful of warm creamy cappuccino and toasted marshmallows. As the taste lengthens and deepens, dry espresso, liquorice root and tarry smoke develop coating the palate with chewy peat oils.
Please note that taste might differ between individuals
Nose:
A burst of intense smoky fruit escapes into the atmosphere ? peat infused with zesty lemon and lime, wrapped in waxy dark chocolate. Bold menthol and black pepper slice through the sweet smoke followed by tarry ropes and graphite. Savour the aroma of smoked fish and crispy bacon alongside green bell peppers, baked pineapple and pear juice.

Add water and an oceanic minerality brings a breath of cool, briny seaspray. Waxed lemon and lime follows with coal tar soap, beeswax and herby pine woodlands. Toasted vanilla and sizzling cinnamon simmer with warm hazelnut and almond toffee.
Food Pairing:
Mature and hard cheese

In the glass, Ardbeg 10 Year Old has a pale straw coloring. It is very pale, in fact, so pale that it is almost translucent. The nose is a current of pungent smoke, rounded out by a note of lemon cookie and dry hay.

The flavor too is very much centered on a hefty blast of peat smoke, with notes of citrus, vanilla, honey and a little grassiness. The finish starts out both peppery and spicy, but winds down with a lingering ashy, charcoal like flavor.

If you like peat bomb whisky, Ardbeg Ten delivers like a middleweight slugger. It’s not the peatiest whisky around, but it punches hard at its weight class.
Background:
Ardbeg Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery in Ardbeg on the south coast of the isle of Islay, Argyll and Bute, Scotland, in the Inner Hebrides group of islands. The distillery is owned by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, and produces a heavily peated Islay whisky. The distillery uses malted barley sourced from the maltings in Port Ellen. The Ardbeg distillery has been producing whisky since 1798, and began commercial production in 1815. Like most Scottish distilleries, for most of its history, its whisky was produced for use in blended whisky, rather than as a single malt.
