This travel exclusive is a testament to The House of Suntory’s legacy of craftsmanship and to “Kogei” meaning “traditional Japanese craft”. A craft that appreciates both process and beauty and is an endless catalyst for creativity. It embodies the House of Suntory’s Monozukuri philosophy and continuous commitment to innovation.
The diversified whisky making ‘Tsukuriwake’, that the past blenders acquired and handed down through generations, allowed Shinji, the master blender, and Suntory blenders to push the boundaries of the Hakushu profile. They discovered a potential to marry peated malt and Spanish oak. This combination has been experimented since the 1990s and today, the blenders have extracted this whisky, nurtured in the land of Hakushu, after discovering that these two distinctive characters can bring a unique profile unlike any other. To add depth to the Hakushu signature flavors, Shinji started with the peat-smoking of malt, from distillers in Islay, to gain a deeper grain character with richer floral notes. To complement, the liquid was matured in Spanish oak casks, to create a Hakushu with drier smoke and undertones of fruity sweetness.
