MASI
ANGELORUM SWEET RED WINE
Veneto, Italy

92 points - Falstaff - 2017 vintage

Masi Angelorum is the historic, sweet red dessert wine of the Valpolicella region. The ancient traditional Italian grapes - Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara - are picked from hillside sites andd dried using the Appassimento technique, where the grapes are laid out on bamboo racks in drying lofts during the winter months. The grapes shrink in the drying process to make aromatic, fruity wines that are smooth and refined, with a wonderful balance of alcohol, sugar and structure.

The Masi Angelorum Recioto della Valpolicella Classico DOCG is traditional sweet red dessert wine. Full-bodied with rich and complex aromas of cooked cherries and fruit preserved in spirit. An equally complex palate with an attractive mixture of sweetness and acidity and well integrated tannins to balance lively acidity. A long finish with hints of cherries in spirit at the end. Excellent as an after-dinner wine. Good with country-style desserts, fresh fruit, tarts, pasties and cheese.
With roots in Valpolicella Classica, Masi produces and distributes Amarone and other premium wines inspired by the values of the Venetian territories. The use of native grapes and autochthonous methods, and the research and experimentation carried out by its Technical Group, make it one of the most famous producers of high-quality Italian wines in the world. The Masi story began in 1772, when the Boscaini family acquired prestigious vineyards in the small valley called “Vaio dei Masi”, which is the origin of the company’s name. After more than 200 years of passionate winemaking the company is still in family hands, run by the sixth and seventh generations. A benchmark in the art of producing Amarone at a world level, Masi constantly innovates and passes on its expertise in the Appassimento method, which has been practised since the time of the Ancient Romans.

Expert review:
Falstaff
92 points. Rich ruby red with a delicately brightening rim. The nose has a clear floral touch, with nuances of dried violets and juicy cherries, followed by a finish of black bread and plums. Balanced on the palate with a fine finish, showing pithy tannins without lacking in juiciness, with great length to the finish. (2017 vintage)
