Centuries ago, an Alchemist from China was searching for the Elixir of Life, ironically he created gunpowder instead. When Europeans first heard about magical fireworks and exploding weapons, they voyaged and ventured to find it. Navy-strength gin arose from similar expeditions as vessels were required to have a certain amount of gin on board. In order to test gin quality, a mixture of gin and gun powder was used to check against unscrupulous employers. If it burned clear—this was a sign that it was 57% ABV and above.
We tinkered with our Orchid Gin's original recipe to create our internationally acclaimed Black Powder by bruising half the junipers and adding whole fresh lemons to create a well-rounded gin with bright citrus notes. Made for the brave.
