Viña Real’s Spanish wines showcase the unique Rioja Alavesa terroir: wines with excellent ageing potential, body, structure and aromatic intensity, predominantly fruity.

The Viña Real Reserva is a Tempranillo red wine, one of Spain's most famous grape varietals. It is aged in new single-use French and American oak barrels for an average of 22 months and an additional 18 months in the bottle to develop a rounded and complex flavour. The Viña Real Reserva is a deep ruby red in color. The nose shows intense notes of ripe red fruits and notes from barrel aging such as toast, spices and smoke. The palate reveals a well-structured wine with firm but polished, rounded tannins and notes of fruit compote and elegant oak. The long finish adds to the ability of the wine to age well for a considerable time in bottle.

The history of Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España began back in 1879, finding a home in the Barrio de la Estación train station in the town of Haro, Spain. Over 140 years and five generations later, the winery is still run by the same family, producing quality, artisanal and traditional wines that grace tables in more than 90 countries. An industry leader in Spain and winner of prestigious wine awards, CVNE has continued to grow while always remaining true to its objective of creating premium wines and tapping into the potential of the outstanding vineyards in its environs. The group currently has seven wineries in Spain’s principal wine-growing regions: CVNE, Imperial, Viña Real and Viñedos del Contino in Rioja, Roger Goulart in Penedés, Bela in Ribera del Duero, and Virgen del Galir in Valdeorras.

Since 1920, Viña Real winery as been a winemaking pioneer in ageing Rioja Alavesa while remaining faithful to its roots with a meticulous balance between tradition and modernity. Rioja Alavesa grapes are at the very heart of this winery. The winery’s name was inspired by the proximity of its vineyards to the old Camino Real. Clinging to this same patch of earth and blending into the Cerro de la Mesa hill is a monumental 30,000-square metre vat: this is the Viña Real building, an iconic design built in 2004 that masterfully blends the construction into the Riojan terrain.
