This cookbook is a timeless collection of classic Peranakan receipts by Mrs. Lee Chin Koon, first published in 1974. Shermay Lee, granddaughter of Mrs. Lee (1907-1980), with the experience of a professional chef, has recaptured and updated her grandmother’s traditional flavors into two fully illustrated cookbooks.
The new Mrs. Lee’s Cookbook Straits Heritage Cuisine: Volume 1& 2 features a delightful mix of Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian recipes. It also includes anecdotes explaining their origins, and reveals the secrets of Peranakan cuisine and the Nonya’s kitchen. To celebrate Singapore’s Jubilee in 2015, Singapore Airlines created a special menu featuring a selection of dishes based on recipes from this very cookbook. You can now recreate these delicious Singaporean heritage flavors and dishes in your home kitchen, such as Tau You Bak, Ngoh Hiang, Rissoles, Pork Satay with Pineapple Sauce, Nonya Fish Curry, and Chilli Crab.
