Martell: a cognac legend over three centuries

300 years of passion and audacity have built the legacy that is Martell,

one of the oldest of the great Cognac houses,

creating the signature taste of roundness and finesse with artisanal craftsmanship.

Terroir

The Cognac region itself is divided into six vineyard areas, among which the Borderies, the smallest and rarest of cognac crus, lends the finest Martell cognacs their hallmark elegance and subtlety. The Borderies crus accounts for only 6% of the six crus and a mere 4,000 hectares of land. The grapes that grow in the silica-clay soils give its Eaux-de-vie distinctive floral aromas and exceptional smoothness.

Distillation and Ageing

Of the great cognac houses, Martell is one to distill clear wines, to produce exceptionally fine Eaux-de-vie which reveal all the aromas of the grape. Maison Martell has always exclusively used barrels made of fine-grained oak which transmit subtle, well-balanced aromas to the Eaux-de-vie.

Blending

Blending is the decisive step in the definition of the character and style of Martell Cognac. Martell Cellar Master decides when the Eaux-de-vie have reached their full potential and combines them to create perfect harmony. Martell's mission is to blend heirloom cognacs for the generations not only today but to come in 10, 20, or even 100 years.
