Oh, look what's around the corner. Or is it, who?
Halloween’s nothing without that dose of scare. So why not take the spooks up a notch with Halloween-themed drinks and cocktail ideas? For your next party, serve a vodka martini with mystery and have a shot of tequila in suspense!
Cast a spell on the classic margarita and whip up a Halloween upgrade.
1 tablespoon of black sanding sugar
1 cube of ice
60ml of silver tequila (You won’t go wrong with Herradura Blanco and Milagro Silver Tequila, brands you can always rely on.)
30ml of triple sec (The Liqueurful’s Federica Liquor of Oranges will be a perfect option.)
¼ cup of freshly-squeezed lime juice
Red, blue and green food colouring
Fresh lime slices to garnish
Start by rimming your rock glass with a lime slice, then dip it into the black sanding sugar.
Pour the tequila, triple sec and lime juice into the glass and stir.
Add the food colouring in small consecutive drops till you achieve the desired black hue.
Drop in a cube of ice and leave on a slice of lime for garnish.
Serve.

Turn lychees into creepy eyeballs in this cocktail recipe while enjoying that punch from any full-body sake.
1 cup of sake (For that rich sake flavour, go for the undiluted Saito Junmai Ginjo Genshu 17.5% or Saito Ginjo 12Yo Aged 16.5%.)
1 can of lychees in syrup
1 packet of blueberries
Strawberry jam
6 to 8 dried roselle flowers
¾ cups of sugar
2 cups of water
Ice cubes
To prepare the roselle syrup, mix the water and sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Drop in the roselle flowers and stir. Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about three minutes until you achieve a slightly thickened consistency. Strain the mixture through a measuring cup and keep in the fridge to cool.
Separate the lychee from the syrup, leaving the latter in a jug for use later. Pat the lychees dry and keep aside.
Mix the sake and lychee syrup in equal portions.
Once lychees are dry, add strawberry jam inside the lychee and around the pits. Then, place a blueberry inside each lychee.
Fill ¼ of a cocktail glass with the roselle syrup and add ice cubes.
Pour in the lychee-sake mixture over a spoon to create an ombre effect. The mixture should cover up to ¾ of the glass.
Place the lychee eyeballs on top of the ice cubes.
Serve.

Mystify your guests with the celestial magic of the moon with this Halloween rendition of the martini, maybe one with a higher alcohol content. Make your pick between gin and vodka.
50ml of gin or vodka (Classic brands work wonders – go for the Tanglin Singapore Gin or the Absolut Citron. Alternatively, experiment with sake.)
½ teaspoon of charcoal powder
25ml of lime juice
100ml of pineapple juice
25ml of freshly-squeezed lime juice
25ml of soda water
Ice
Sphere ice
Freeze spherical moulds with water to prepare large sphere ice.
Dissolve charcoal powder in the pineapple juice.
Add above mixture, gin or vodka, lime juice and ice to a shaker and shake hard to combine.
Pour alcohol mixture into a chilled coupe glass and add soda water to taste.
Add one large sphere of ice and let it float.
Serve.
Of course, the list is endless – turn up the nightmare on whiskey street by combining single malt Scotch favourites like Twenty Third Street Hybrid Whiskey with rum and coffee liqueur. Or, surprise your guests with a spiced wine concoction, starting with the 2020 Sierra Foothills Old Vine by Zinfandel, and deliver that fiery punch with a dash of cinnamon. Pair the blood-red Sangria with a white wine alternative, combined with limoncello and apple juice, and not forgetting that green colouring for that bewitching Halloween hue.
